CMA/CGA Cross Country Regional Invitational

It was a very nice day (not too hot) on Culver Academies’ campus this past weekend for the Regional Cross Country Invitational.  Just the kind of day you would expect in the Fall and just the kind of day made for long-distance running along the shores of Lake Maxinkuckee.  Both Culver Academy boys and girls did a tremendous job and gave 110% effort.

The end result was a 1st place finish for the CMA team and a 2nd place finish for the CGA team. To view additional photos from this event, visit our website at: http://www.culverphotos.com/f219961981  as well as: http://www.culverphotos.com/cgacrosscountry.

CGA Honor Organizations-Drill Team October 15th, 2011

The CGA Drill Team performed at a ceremony for the CGA 40-year celebration. They performed at the Vaugh Equestrienne Riding Hall to a large audience. They did a great job. I have posted some of my favorite photos. Please view additional photos not displayed here at http://www.culverphotos.com/10_15_11_drillteam

CGA 40th Anniversary-Opening and Panel

Ginny, her mom, and Julie (her sister) attended CGA’s 40-year celebration. Ginny writes about it on her blog at http://www.ginnysfrieday.com/?p=121. She had a great time and said it was an emotional experience for her as many trips back to campus are. I shot some pictures at the opening ceremony. It was an impressive ceremony.

Culver Academy Sailing Regatta Photos

This past weekend, Culver Academy hosted its annual invitational sailing regatta on the shores of Lake Maxinkuckee. As always, the coaches and students of CGA and CMA hosted a nice event. The weather was sunny and beautiful but there was almost no wind. On Saturday, races were postponed until later in the day. Sunday, after an hour postponement, the races were called off. I photographed what I was able to but with prior commitments later in the afternoon on both days, only a few races actually occured during the hours that I was there.

I’ve posted some photos here. Other photos are located at:

CMA Varsity Football vs. Sheridan

What a fun football game the Friday night CMA Varsity football game was against Sheridan High School. It was Senior Night where they recognize the football and cheerleader seniors. The Spirit of Culver looked great. The CMA Drill Team performed during halftime. The weather was nice and wasn’t too hot or too cold. It was a great evening, a fun night, and a day that we were all proud to be an Eagle.

Culver Academy dominated the game, easily winning 42-21. As always, I took photos of EVERYTHING. I’ve posted some of my favorites here. Other photos are located at:

Engagement Portrait Session: Bethany and Tommy

A few weeks ago, Ginny and I photographed Bethany and Tommy for an engagement session. They will  be getting married at Culver Academies next summer. Ginny and I will be photographing the wedding. We are looking forward to it, as these two people are great to work with and so easy going. We took some photos down by the park where they were engaged, and we also went over to campus to get some Chapel shots. We are looking forward to wedding day of these two!

2011 Culver Academies’ Fall Parents Weekend

Wow, what a busy weekend Fall Parent’s Weekend at Culver Academy was this year. In addition to the 2000+ photos that I took, the Academy has asked that I post their photos from the weekend as well. For me, this is a first, but I like it. For once, I’m able to post photos from events that were going on at the same time. In the galleries from the weekend, we have: Garrison parade, officer’s figure, classroom and candids, sports photos, Founder’s Day Retreat, the horsemanship activities, and the Honor Organizations to name a few.

I’ve posted all of the photos under one main heading called “2011 Fall Parent’s Weekend.” Within that category, there are several galleries, so finding specific photos should be easier.

I’ve posted a few of my favorites from the weekend here. Please visit,   http://www.culverphotos.com/2011fallparentsweekend  for all of the photos.

Fall Parent’s Weekend CGA Varsity Soccer vs. Westview

A couple of weeks ago was the CGA Varsity soccer team final home game that included recognition for the team’s seniors. Given that it was last time the girls would play on Culver’s campus together, as a team, it was an emotional day for everyone.

The girls played hard but with several players out due to injuries, they could not pull out a victory.

I’ve posted some photos here. Additional photos are located at:

Fall Parent’s Weekend CMA Varsity Soccer vs. Portage

Over Fall Parent’s Weekend, the Culver Academy Boys Varsity Soccer Team played their last home game of the season against Portage. The weather was nice and the CMA Eagles played well. They won 3 to 1.

Culver Invitational Cross Country Meet

This past weekend, Culver Academies hosted their annual cross country invitational on campus. I don’t know how the runners focus on their race when part of the race path goes along the beautiful shores of Lake Maxinkuckee. I think I’d have to stop and take it all in, but these young people have a way of staying focused. The invitational has grown over the years into one of the largest cross country events in the Midwest with over 3,000 runners competing. If you’ve never had the chance to observe it, I’d recommend watching it one of these years. Just seeing the traffic of cars coming into the town and campus was an amazing thing to see. The tournament is an energy-filled day with a lot going on. Seeing all of the colorful tents to mark each team’s “camp” is a sight to behold, as they are all over campus. A BIG, BIG, BIG hats off to Coach Chastain who organizes this event every year. He pulls it off in an organized, safe fashion.

Unfortunately, someone forgot to tell mother nature that this event was going on. The weather did not cooperate. It rained quite hard for a portion of the day, which limited the photos that I was able to get. Between wet gear, water spots on my lens, and a fogged lens, I was unable to get photos from several of the races. However, I did attempt to capture what I could. I have posted some photos here.
