CMA JV Lacrosse vs. LaPorte

On May 12th, the CMA JV Lacrosse team hosted LaPorte High School for an evening game played on Oliver Field at Culver Academies. As expected with Culver’s Lacrosse teams, the JV team dominated the game and easily won 8 to 0.

CMA JV Lacrosse Photos: Culver Academy vs. Carmel

On Saturday, the CMA JV Lacrosse team hosted Carmel High School for a lacrosse game played on Oliver Field. The weather was bad with the possibility of rain coming in; this kept me from shooting the entire game. Culver struggled and never quite seemed to get in synch.

I’ve posted some of my favorite photos here. Other photos are located at:

Culver Academy JV Lacrosse Photos: CMA vs. South Bend St. Joseph

The CMA JV Lacrosse team hosted the South Bend St. Joseph team at Culver’s Oliver Field. It was a little overcast, which limited the colors that I could get as I shot.

Culver’s JV team played well and won 6-to-4.

Culver Academy Lacrosse Photos: CMA Varsity Lacrosse vs. Brebeuf

In the third lacrosse game played yesterday, the CMA varsity team played against Brebeuf High School. It was a freezing, windy, cold day. (I had on two pairs of socks, long johns, gloves, ear muffs, and my heavy jacket that I thought I’d put away for the winter.) Did someone forget to tell Mother Nature that this is the middle of May?!

Once again, Culver dominated the game with little action on their defensive end. The final score was 17 to 1 (15 points were scored in the first half). The action on the offensive side provided some great opportunities for shots on the goal. I’ve posted some photos here. Culver Academy Lacrosse Photos: CMA JV Lacrosse vs. Cathedral

Yesterday, Culver’s second lacrosse game of the day (there were four games in total among the lacrosse teams) was between the CMA JV Team and the JV Team of Cathedral High School from Indianapolis. (The two varsity teams squared off the previous night under the lights on Fleet Field.) Cathedral played a strong game, but they were no match for the JV Eagles. There isn’t a score board on the field overlooking Lake Maxinkuckee, so I do not know what the final score was, but I’m told that the Eagles beat Cathedral by several points. I’ve posted some photos here. You can find more at http://www.culverphotos.com/5_8_10_cmajvlacrosse_cathedral.

Culver Academy Lacrosse Photos: CMA Varsity Lacrosse vs. Cathedral High School

Last night, I watched and photographed half of the CMA Varsity Lacrosse game against Cathedral High School, which is from my hometown of Indianapolis. Everyone thought that it was  going to be a great game because Cathedral has always been a tough competitor for Culver in the past. It didn’t turn out to be a close game. The final score was 20-something points to only a few. Cathedral never gave up, but Culver Academies dominated on the offensive end. I know I probably sound like a broken record, but I’ll say it again: Culver’s Lacrosse program is a powerhouse that few midwestern teams can compete against. I’m sorry that most of my photos are of the offensive line, but the defense didn’t get much action. I’ve posted some photos here. Culver Academy Lacrosse Photos: CMA Varsity Lacrosse vs. Bishop Leurs

Yesterday, the second lacrosse game was played between the the varsity teams of Bishop Leurs High School and Culver Academy on Culver’s Oliver Field. The CMA varsity went much like the JV game played out earlier in the evening. The Bishop Leurs didn’t play badly. Culver Lacrosse has reached a level that few Midwest teams can compete with. Due to fading light, and the fact that I was only able to get shots of a few players because all of the action was near the other team’s goal, I left at the half. The score was 11 to 0 when I left. I’ve posted some photos here. More are loacted at http://www.culverphotos.com/5_5_10_varsity_lacrosse.

Culver Academy Lacrosse Photos: CMA JV Lacrosse vs. Bishop Leurs

This afternoon, the weather cleared up and the CMA Eagles hosted two lacrosse games with their JV and Varsity teams against Bishop Leurs High School. I got to only watch the second half of the game, as the rugby match I also shot this afternoon, started late. The JV lacrosse game was a little one sided with the majority of the action being at the opposing team’s goal. As a photographer, I missed half of the team during the game because Culver’s offense kept the game at the opposing team’s goal. If the lacrosse teams keep playing this well, I’m never going to get any photos of their defense doing anything more than standing around waiting for the ball that never comes their way. :) Please know that I’m not belittling Bishop Leurs. They probably do well against other schools. Culver’s lacrosse program is just that amazing here among Midwestern schools.

Culver Academy Lacrosse Photos: CMA Varsity vs. New Trier

This afternoon, I traveled to the campus of Notre Dame to follow Culver’s Varsity Lacrosse team as they played the Illinois State Champion team of New Trier. Did I say State Champions? I’m sorry. I should have said- the Illinois State Champions for the past 5 years! To say that this team is good is an understatement. They are a great team. Mix the intensity of the game with the surroundings, and it was a great game. (The game was played in Notre Dame’s Arlotta Stadium, which is truly a beautiful lacrosse facilty.)

New Trier did win the game with a final score of 10 to 5 after leading the entire game. I, however, do not feel that that final score is truly reflective of Culver’s abilities. In the third period, Culver overcame a several point deficit to bring the score within a point. Had Culver played that way the whole game, they could have won this one. I’d love to see these two teams meet again.

Culver Academy Lacrosse Photos: CMA JV Lacrosse vs. Homestead

This afternoon, the CMA JV Lacrosse team hosted a game against Homestead on Culver’s lacrosse field that overlooks Lake Maxinkuckee. The weather was beautiful and because there was no wind, Culver’s crew teams could be seen practicing in the background.

Culver’s JV Lacrosse team proved to be a more seasoned team than Homestead’s team. Unfortunately for both teams, the game was one-sided. Culver’s offense and Homestead’s defense had 95% of the game’s action. I think that against other High School teams, Homestead probably would have performed ok. In recent years though, Culver’s Lacrosse program has proven to be a powerhouse with their JV and Varsity programs. I’ve posted a handful of pictures here.
