CMA Football Sectionals vs. South Bend’s St. Joseph

A few weekends ago, Culver Academies varsity football played their second Sectional game against South Bend St. Joseph. The Eagles fought hard and held their own for the first half of the game. At one point, Culver Academies led the game. At some point though, mistakes were made and South Bend got into their groove. I’ve posted some photos here. CMA Varsity Football vs. Knox

I’m posting these pictures late, but the CMA football team played so well at their first sectional game that I think you’ll agree that it’s better late than never. Ginny and I shot this game on a cold night, and what was the most fun was being on the sidelines with the team, as they really seemed to bond as a team. All of the players were upbeat throughout the game, encouraging each other and playing as if they knew they were going to win. It was a fun game. The final score was 44-12 with the Eagles being the victors.

CMA JV Football vs. Fairfield October 15th, 2011

This past Saturday morning, the CMA JV football team played a home game against Fairfield The weather was nice but a little cold. If there hadn’t have been any wind, it would have been a nice day for a game. (I was wearing long johns. Last year, I learned my lesson at one of the late Fall Saturday morning games where I froze.)

If you’ve never witnessed a Saturday morning football game at Culver Academies, I’d highly recommend watching one sometime. The campus looks great, but what caught my eye were the horses. I’ll explain. Every Saturday morning, the Horsemanship Department lets the horses out their pens to run and get some exercise. Culver is very unique in that these exercise pens are right behind the visiting team’s bleachers. From where I was on the Eagle’s sideline, I had a perfect view of the opposing team’s fans and the horses. At the start of the game, one or two very young children were brave enough to venture over to the fence to talk with the horses and pet them. By the time the game was over, there were at least a dozen young kids doing the same thing. As I drove home from the game, I realized that those kids probably had more fun at this weekend’s game than any other in the season. I imagine that those kids will think back to the game with a smile.

In true Culver Academies form, there is always something going on. Saturday was no different. If anyone had wanted to take a break from the football game, within a few hundred yards, they could have watched Cross Country Regionals or a CGA Polo game. Or, if nothing else, they could have explored Culver’s beautiful campus and walked along the shore of Lake Maxinkuckee.

The Culver JV Football team played hard and tried. Unfortunately, their opponent, Fairfield High School, has an undefeated JV team. I’m told that this group of young men has been undefeated together for a couple of years. Watching the game, this was very obvious. The JV Eagles lost. It was still fun to watch and there were some great plays. I managed to get a lot of photos that I hope you will check out. (Football photos on a sunny day always turn out better than the ones taken under the lights.)

CMA Varsity Football vs. Sheridan

What a fun football game the Friday night CMA Varsity football game was against Sheridan High School. It was Senior Night where they recognize the football and cheerleader seniors. The Spirit of Culver looked great. The CMA Drill Team performed during halftime. The weather was nice and wasn’t too hot or too cold. It was a great evening, a fun night, and a day that we were all proud to be an Eagle.

Culver Academy dominated the game, easily winning 42-21. As always, I took photos of EVERYTHING. I’ve posted some of my favorites here. Other photos are located at:

Friday Night Football: CMA Eagles vs. Brebeuf

What a fun football game last Friday night’s was…or at least it was up until the end. The weather was perfect as it wasn’t too hot or too cold. The cadets looked in step and professional during their march-on. The CMA Eagles were lead onto Oliver Field by the Old Guard who had returned to campus to celebrate a reunion. The Spirit of Culver looked great. (I was a Trooper when I attended Culver so I can appreciate when horses participate in the sports world.) The cheerleaders were energetic and put on some great performances that made for some photo opps with a cool blue sky in the background as the sun went down. During halftime, the Dancevision team performed for the crowd. In the second half of the game, the cheerleaders gave away noise makers to the Eagles fans who added to the excitment of the game. It was a really fun night…except for the score.

The Eagles started off with a bang. They quickly put a 14-to-0 score on the board. Unfortunately, the momentum turned. Culver fought hard all the way to the end, but they couldn’t maintain the lead.

High School Football Photos: Culver Academies vs. Tippecanoe Valley

Sorry everyone. I just realized how far behind on getting entires posted I am. Have patience with me as I attempt to get caught up over the next week.

Last month, I photographed the first home game of the CMA varsity football team as they played their at Oliver Field. It was a beautiful evening, not too hot, not too cold, as Culver Academies hosted Tippecanoe Valley. Culver played well, easily winning 22 to 8. I’ve posted some photos here. Indiana Sports Photography: CMA Eagles Varsity Football vs. Andrean

Last night, the CMA Eagles varsity Football team hosted Andrean at Culver Academies for the second Sectionals game of the post-season tournament. As some may recall, Andrean was the team that ended Culver’s tournament run last year. Unfortunately, they were able to do the same this year. Culver suffered some injuries in the first half, but played their hearts despite the loss of some of their key players. The opposing team appeared to have two or three times more kids on their team than Culver. I think they could have fielded three teams. Ginny and I hope the kids who were injured are doing better, and if not, we hope for speedy recoveries. I’ve posted some photos here. Others are located at:

Indiana Sports Photographer: CMA Football vs. Fairfield

On Friday night, the Culver Academy Eagles proved that you can’t always believe what people say about a team. The statistics, the newspapers, and the general consensus were that Culver couldn’t win their Varsity Football game against Fairfield High School. Fortunately for Culver’s sake, no one affiliated with the CMA football program paid attention to the speculation. Playing against a much larger squad with a better record, the Culver Eagles showed up to play. And play they did! Culver played their hearts out and Fairfield was the team that made some crutial mistakes that lead Culver to an easy win. The final score was Culver- 40 and Fairfield- 13. Indiana Sports Photography: Culver Middle School Football

Earlier this week,the Culver Middle School Football team played Jimtown Middle School. The boys played hard and I got some great photos. I was told that this is young team for Culver where many of the players are new to the game. Regardless, I think that boys did a good job and never gave up. I’ve posted some photos here.
