Wish Upon A Wedding Photographer: Sally and Tom

A few weeks ago, Ginny and I traveled to Anderson, Indiana to donate our services to the Wish Upon a Wedding organization for a lovely couple, Sally and Tom, getting married this weekend. Due to confidentiality agreements, I am unable to share photos or any of the details though I am able to direct you to the official release about the engagement shoot and Sally and Tom. Culver Academy Garrison Parade: Parent’s Weekend 2011

Parents’ weekend on Sunday was a great day for Culver Academy’s Garrison Parade. The weather was nice. The boys and girls looked sharp. The band sounded good. The trucks all ran and were clean. And the horses, for the most part, behaved themselves. The parade was everything that you’d expect 8 months into the school year.

Banners, Banners, Everywhere

It has been a busy week here at the office with a lot of time spent in Photoshop creating senior banners for 12 students from three different sports. Normally, these are produced in 3′x7′ dimensions, but this time, it was a little different. Because of a special request for the golf banner and hanging restrictions for the rugby banners, I had to alter my design to accomindate a 2′x5′ layout. (If you’ve ever been to an Academy Rugby game, you probably noticed that there is no place to hang anything out at the field. The only place to hang banners is in the Rugby tent which is 6′ tall.)

If you have never seen the banners before, you should go see them. They are sharp and are a great memorbilia item that the students can hang at home or take with them to college. Normally, I create these with sport images, though I have been asked to create them for friends or of a student in uniform, and so onw.

Hilton Head Wildlife Photography

This week, I made a last-minute trip to Hilton Head, South Carolina to surprise my wife who is down there for 21 days. During my 48-hour trip, I had a little time to explore the island and shoot some of the beautiful wildlife in their natural environments. In my travels, I came across many types of birds, dolphins, alligators, and pelicans. I’ve posted a few photos here. More can be found at:

Culver Indiana Photos: Custom Products

In the past couple of years, we’ve been asked to create numerous custom products. These are a lot of fun, as they typically involve editing/processing work, and some of these products are printed with print companies that specialize in this type of thing. Some of the popular choices include custom collage photos, slideshow DVDs, banners, yearbook pages, custom coloring and spot coloring, event and sports photo books, Christmas cards, invitations, party yard signs, announcements, Fathead wall clings, and entire sports season DVDs. No matter what your custom need may be, we can probably help.

Culver Indiana Photos: Crop Dusting

June 20th, 2010 Grant

Growing up in Indiana, I can honestly say that I’ve only seen crop dusters at work four or five times. Of these few times, I’ve always been driving or with others and never had the chance to stop. This past Sunday, I saw that a crop duster was spraying some fields a quater mile outside of Culver so I ran home and grabbed my camera. It was an amazing thing to watch as the bright, shiny plane flew within 20 feet of the ground and dodged trees and power lines by 40 or 50 feet. If you ever see a crop duster working, I recommend stopping for a look. It is really cool. At one point, the pilot changed his pattern to fly right by me. Very cool of him! Culver Indiana Photography: Sunsets and Full Moon in Culver

March 30th, 2010 Grant

Yesterday and today, Ginny and I went over to Culver Academies campus and took some shots just at sunset. Tonight, we were fortunate enough to enjoy a full moon as it rose over the lake and cast a golden glow across campus. This is a collection of our shots on campus during this time of the evening when all is quiet on campus. It has been especially quiet the past two days, as the kids and faculty/staff are on Spring Break. It’s a beautiful time of the day to take a few moments to capture the quiet calm of campus and the lake. Ginny wanted to photograph all of the trees on campus. Culver Indiana Photography: Some Random Shots

Today I went out in search of things to find. I really wasn’t looking for anything in particular though I had to shoot using very specific camera settings. These photos were all taken using the Auto Area Focus mode and the Programmed Auto mode and no exposure compensation. In layman’s terms, the photos that you see were taken so that the camera could determine settings. For all practical purposes, for these photos, I set the D300s up as closely to being a point and shoot camera as  possible. I prefer not to shoot in Auto Programmed mode, but this was a good exercise.

Culver Indiana Photographer: Photo Contest Winners

November 21st, 2009 Grant

This evening Ginny and I were informed that we were winners in a local photogoraphy contest that is part of The National Endowment for the Arts “The Big Read” project. I won the top prize for ”Best Overall.” It is for a photo called “Along a Country Road,” which I shot a couple miles out of Culver during one of our outings. We were driving along when we came across a woman riding a bicyle who had just picked some wild flowers to take home. Ginny asked her if we could take her picture, which she graciously said we could, so I shot her riding away from us.

Ginny won first place in the “People” category with a picture of our niece titled “Butterfly Hunting.” Ginny loves to take pictures of kids, and I think this one represents how patient she is when taking “just the right shot.” Lucy is always on the move, but she has given Ginny many opportunities and is her favorite subject.

Thanks to those of you who support our efforts. We are thrilled to be recognized for some fo the photos!
