Culver Academies’ Halloween 2011 Dance

Last weekend, I decided to venture to Culver Academies’ campus for their annual Senior Halloween party. Over the years, I’ve heard a little about this event, though I had never personally witnessed it. When Ginny and I attended Culver, they didn’t have a senior-only event for Halloweeen at Beason.

The party was a lot of fun and I have to say, the kids really do go all out with their costumes. There were some really good and creative ones that the kids came up with. I’ve posted some photos from the night here. To view additional photos from the evening’s crazy events, please visit our website at:

Final Fall Garrison Parade

This past weekend was Culver Academies’ final Garrison Parade for the season and the parade that marked the end of the CGA 40th Anniversary Celebration Weekend. I suspect that had this been any other parade and not the last 2011 parade and the 40th CGA Weekend, the parade would have probably been canceled. It rained. It rained A LOT! It was also quite cold. Surprising, while huddled under my umbrella, I still managed to get some photos. I did have to add a little light to the photos as it really wasn’t that bright out, but, all in all, I’m happy with the results.

In my usual fashion, I shot EVERYTHING–the kids forming up, the cadets and coeds walking and marching over, and the students goofing around before the parade got underway. I shot a lot of photos. I narrowed it down to 413 that I posted!

CGA Honors Organizations-Equestriennes

Last weekend, as part of the CGA 40th Anniversary Celebration, the Equestrienne team performed. As always, the girls looked sharp. For a chance though, they did have a couple of horses that were a little higher strung than usual. I attribute this to the fact that it was a nice day and on Saturday morning, Culver Academy lets their horses out to play in the paddocks. The horses probably wanted to keep playing.

Here are some of the photos; additional photos can be found at our website: http://www.culverphotos.com/10_15_11_equestriennes

CGA 40th Anniversary-Opening and Panel

Ginny, her mom, and Julie (her sister) attended CGA’s 40-year celebration. Ginny writes about it on her blog at http://www.ginnysfrieday.com/?p=121. She had a great time and said it was an emotional experience for her as many trips back to campus are. I shot some pictures at the opening ceremony. It was an impressive ceremony.

2011 Culver Academies’ Fall Parents Weekend

Wow, what a busy weekend Fall Parent’s Weekend at Culver Academy was this year. In addition to the 2000+ photos that I took, the Academy has asked that I post their photos from the weekend as well. For me, this is a first, but I like it. For once, I’m able to post photos from events that were going on at the same time. In the galleries from the weekend, we have: Garrison parade, officer’s figure, classroom and candids, sports photos, Founder’s Day Retreat, the horsemanship activities, and the Honor Organizations to name a few.

I’ve posted all of the photos under one main heading called “2011 Fall Parent’s Weekend.” Within that category, there are several galleries, so finding specific photos should be easier.

I’ve posted a few of my favorites from the weekend here. Please visit,   http://www.culverphotos.com/2011fallparentsweekend  for all of the photos.

Culver Academy Honor Organizations

Last weekend, as part of Culver’s Reunion Weekend, the CMA and CGA Honor Organizations performed at the recently renovated Riding Hall. As one would expect this late in the year, all the groups looked and performed very well.

Culver Academy Reunion Weekend: Garrison Parade

On Saturday afternoon of Culver’s Reunion Weekend, Culver held a Garrison Parade, which includes the returning alumni. This year, unfortunately, the parade happened in the rain on a soggy field. With some uncertainty about whether or not the parade would happen and some earlier events falling behind schedule, things were a little disorganized, but you could tell the returning classes had a great time. This was also the parade at which the parade field was dedicated to Mr. Jim Henderson. It was a nice ceremony and appropriate for the class of ’86 that had returned for its 25-year reunion, as Mr. Henderson was the honored speaker at 86′s graduation. I know this because Ginny was one of the returning members. She enjoyed the entire weekend.

CMA Reunion Weekend: Gate Ceremony

As part of Culver Academy’s Reunion Weekend, Culver holds the Gate Ceremony where the more “seasoned” classes are invited to pass through the Iron Gate. This is a really nice ceremony that began 9 to 11 years ago at the request of one of the returning classes. Every year, this is a touching and emotional ceremony that honors the more veteran classes.
